Our Village, Wacholab

Wacholab village is on the north-eastern side of Yap. Here we can watch the sun rise every morning. There are 9 families that live in the village, about 60 people in all. Our village is in the middle of many neighboring villages and connected by dirt roads. Since Typhoon Sudal came in April 2004, there has been much building and renovation. A new menís house is being built after the old one was destroyed by the typhoon. A new road is being built along the shore in order to connect both sides of the village. Long stone seawalls have been built to support the road and to trap sand that was swept away during the typhoon. The entire resort is being completely renovated after Sudal swept through each room. The next village project will be to clean and rebuild the ancient stone path so guests can hike the beautiful trail and learn about this villageís interesting history. Wacholab is community. People come together , work together, help each other. People from other villages are also part of Wacholabís community and visit or help us often and we like to do the same. There is never a dull moment here and when you visit you can feel free to experience and enjoy the people and atmosphere.
